Convert a video to M4A for the Apple ecosystem

AAC audio, which sounds better than MP3 at the same file size and plays natively on every Apple device. Nothing is uploaded.

How to convert a video to M4A

  1. 1

    Import your video

MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM: almost any container works. The file stays on your device.

  2. 2

    Choose M4A

AAC at 192 kbps by default, or 320 kbps if the source is high quality music.

  3. 3

    Save the M4A

Download the file, ready for Music, Voice Memos or a podcast app.

The audio is out. Now make it listenable.

Montaj cuts the silences, cleans up a noisy recording with an on-device model and writes word-by-word subtitles — all on your device, without uploading anything.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between M4A and MP3?
Both compress with loss, but AAC, which M4A carries, keeps more detail at the same bitrate, particularly in the high frequencies. At 192 kbps the gap is small; at 128 kbps it is clearly audible.
Will an M4A play outside Apple devices?
Yes, on Android, Windows and every recent browser. MP3 remains the safer bet only for genuinely old hardware, such as a car stereo from the 2000s.
Is M4A the same as MP4?
Same container, different content. An M4A carries only audio; an MP4 carries video as well. Renaming the extension does not convert anything, which is exactly what this tool does properly.
Is the video uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser, on your device.
